Augustory—Drifting into Decisions
for Augustory
I wish I could call my blog’s origin a story. Stories suggest decisive action, preferably with trumpet fanfares. Lately I drift into decisions, and A Question More was one of them. Fragments of projects were cluttering my brain; I needed to Marie Kondo them and put them someplace external; I stumbled across BearBlog while looking for ad-free platforms; I found an easy-to-push sign-up button; and here we are.
The thing with pushing one button is that it leads to others. Suddenly posts and pages were asking to be written, and I began to realize I was a blogger again and to ask what I wanted from blogging. It’s taken me a while to answer that question. I’ve become a private person with quirky tastes and an off-the-beaten-path life, who’s reading books on eccentricity in case they come in handy. I don’t expect a wide readership, if any. I was disconcerted the one time I had one. But I love that this old-school type of blogging makes me feel part of a shared activity done for the joy of it.
That’s the core for me. Blogging is about shared activity for the joy of it. A communion of keyboards.
I’m still finding my voice here. I’ve had blogs before, written with a clear purpose, audience, and style. At the time clarity served me well. Now I’m in a more transitional, paradigm-shifting season. Drifting and the instinctive refusal to plan ring truer than trying to force clarity.
Still, do I want to become known as that one Sisyphus-Emerson-haiku lady? Do I want to write more personal logs? Rants, riffs, and responses? I expect my unofficial participation in Blaugust will help me drift toward an answer. I certainly won’t do anything radical like decide.
