To thine own self
This is a reminder to future me not to listen to my fantasy self or my virtuous self—especially when a “planned group fun” activity that some lovely, community-minded people have come up with makes me think, “Ooh, doesn’t that sound great?” It does, but that doesn’t mean it’s my cup of tea.
I thought I’d participate unofficially in Blaugust—unofficially, because my real self was trying to make itself heard over my fantasy self and got halfway there. My real self knows I don’t like deadlines or doing things every day, and that I’m a slow, laborious writer with limited energy and other interests I’d like to spend it on.
My fantasy self thought, “Group fun! That would be so cool, because of course my personality can change for a month.” My virtuous self thought, “This will be good for me. I will learn to write more casually. I will learn to stop caring about the Upvote button. I will grow as a person.”
But neither of them is doing the writing.
Real self, I see you. Do what you need to do.
